With pulse control, the pulse transmission cables are highly susceptible to electromagnetic interference, which reduces communication reliability. In contrast, EtherCAT bus communication improves reliability significantly through built-in error detection and handling mechanisms, reducing the impact of interference on commands and extends communication distance. Suitable for strong-EMI environments and Class-100 cleanrooms.

Ø Improves motion performance

For bus-type steppers in non-cyclic synchronous mode, trajectory planning is implemented inside the driver; the controller only needs to send target position, speed and acceleration to the driver. The driver can therefore anticipate the upcoming motion parameters internally and apply feed-forward measures to improve motion performance.

Ø Reduces wiring complexity

With pulse control, the controller must connect to every driver through its own pulse cable, which often results in dense and complicated wiring.EtherCAT bus With bus control, the controller connects by cable to only one driver; the remaining drivers simply connect to it in a daisy chain.

Ø Fewer controller ports are required, and cost is reduced with easier expansion

Multiple bus-type stepper drivers need only one port to connect to the motion control unit (motion controller or card) — no pulse modules, no extra control cards as the number of drivers grows, and no PC slot limitations. This saves the cost of pulse modules, control cards and industrial PCs.
